Hwange

The Hwange National Park is the largest national park in Zimbabwe, covering an area of 14, 650 square kilometres. It is in the coal mining town of Zimbabwe. In 1929 the park was officially classified as a protected National Park.

Hwange National Park is home to one of Africa’s largest herds of Elephants, with a population estimated to be around 44 000 elephants roaming freely in the park. Known as the Presidential Elephants, an iconic herd of about 500 elephants are residents of this National Park and a must-see herd for visitors on a safari drive.

The park is a perfect sanctuary for several animals and an environment to explore and marvel at nature’s wonders. Africa’s Big five are commonly sighted in the park along with an impressive range of other animals, such as the African wild dogs, hippopotamus, and a variety of birdlife.

The game drives in Hwange National Park are second to none. Most camps within the park offer game drives led by experienced tour guides and game rangers with expert knowledge of the wildlife, birdlife, and local flora and fauna.

Hwange National Park Airport is located 65 kilometres southeast of Hwange Town.
The airport has one of the longest runways in Africa, stretching 4.6 km with a 30-meter width. Hwange National Park Airport has a single terminal that facilitates both domestic and international passengers. Tour operators and guides operate airport shuttle services to surrounding hotels, lodges, and camps.
