Drop & Fly Cabin Baggage
If there is no available space to store your cabin bag onboard, a fastjet representative will place the cabin bag in the hold of the aircraft once you have had the chance to remove your valuable items from the bag. A Drop & Fly tag will be affixed with a copy of the tag handed back to you for safekeeping. On arrival at your destination collect your Drop & Fly cabin bag, which will be placed at a safe distance from the aircraft steps.
Infant Baggage Allowance
When travelling with an infant, under the age of two (2) years, a small infant bag for use during the flight may be added to your free cabin baggage allowance and a collapsible pushchair or stroller and car seat will be accepted as additional free checked baggage. A car seat may not be used inflight and will be collected and tagged at the check-in desk.

Additional Pieces and Weight
Any additional Checked Baggage pieces over and above the allowance included with the fare shall be transported subject to the prescribed fee per piece. Additional Checked Baggage items where a fee is not paid for shall not be transported.
Customers may purchase up to 1 (one) additional piece of Checked Baggage, up to a weight of 23kg. Any weight in excess of 23kg shall be charged as per prescribed fees on a per kg basis.
Additional Checked Baggage pieces and weight may be booked and paid for at the Airport or online where permitted.
We may restrict or amend additional Checked Baggage allowance subject to operational requirements. Additional Checked Baggage pieces over the permitted allowance are transported subject to space and weight limitations.
Special Baggage
Special Baggage Information
Smart Bag
You may travel with a Smart Bag on your fastjet flight. For the safety of our customers and crew ensure that the lithium battery is disconnected and placed in the bag, and that the bag adheres to the cabin baggage dimensions and weight allowances prescribed by us. If you are unable to remove the battery from the bag, for safety reasons and in accordance with international safety guidelines it shall not be accepted for travel, as lithium batteries pose a possible fire risk. If your hand-held smart bag is labelled Drop & Fly the battery must be removed and carried on you in the cabin before your bag is placed in the aircraft hold.
Sports Equipment and Musical Instruments
Sports equipment and musical instruments are carried in the hold of the aircraft. These items may be interchanged with your allocated baggage allowance or added as extra Checked Baggage. Items cannot exceed 23 kg and a combined maximum dimension of 81cm + 119cm + 119cm = 319cm.
Sports equipment includes, but is not limited to, bicycles, golf bags, surfboards, wind and kite surfing equipment, fishing rods etc. Bicycles must be packed in a bicycle box. Bicycles without the appropriate packaging will not be accepted. Musical instruments must be packaged in a hard carry case. Instruments without an appropriate hard case will not be accepted.
Should the item exceed the Checked Baggage allowance of 23 kg and a combined maximum dimension of 81cm + 119cm + 119cm = 319cm, please contact our Call Centre to confirm whether we will accept it for carriage.
Travelling with strollers or wheelchairs
If you are travelling with an infant or toddler, you may bring one (1) travel system (baby stroller or pram) or car seat per infant or child. The carriage of these items is FREE OF CHARGE.
Should you require the use of a mobility aid you may carry up to two (2) items of mobility equipment free of charge. This may include a walking aid and a foldable wheelchair.
To avoid any disappointment when travelling, It is important for you to inform us in advance of your travel date, should you require the support of a wheelchair or mobility as the number of passengers we accept for travel requiring the support of a wheelchair or mobility aid is restricted to a prescribed limit per aircraft for safety reasons.
Sporting Rifles
Fastjet permits the carriage of Rifles used for sporting purposes only, on all flights operated by Fastjet Zimbabwe only. The acceptance of a Rifle shall be subject to the adherence of prescribed conditions, ensuring that we transport your Rifle securely and in accordance with all requirements.
Rifles are carried as additional “checked baggage” items, subject to space and operational requirements. There is an additional fee applicable for the carriage of a Rifle. Fees can be paid for online or via our Call Centre. You will receive an email confirmation of the fee payment.
You can check in one (1) Rifle at an additional fee if you are 18 years of age or older.
The Rifle must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided lockable case and transported as checked baggage only. Magazines and ammunition clips, must be empty, must be securely packed in checked baggage or included within a hard-sided case containing the unloaded firearm. You can carry a maximum of 5kg of ammunition packed separately, from the Rifle, in your checked baggage. Ammunition may not be placed loosely in checked baggage.
Only when all formalities have been completed, will you be allowed to check in the Rifle and be given the boarding card for your flight. Your Rifle will be returned to you at the baggage collection point. A member of our ground staff will hand over the case.
When you arrive at the Airport you must inform the Check-In Agent that you are transporting a Rifle. The Check-In Agent will then liaise with Security staff who will be required to inspect and check your Rifle.
You will need to show the relevant documentation to prove you own the Rifle or that you have been authorised to carry the Rifle. The Security/Policy at the Airport reserve the right to refuse the carriage of the Rifle should the documentation not be in order.

ARRIVAL PROCEDURES FOR INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS
Arriving in Zimbabwe
- Foreign customers on fastjet flights are required to declare to Customs their Rifles and apply for a Temporary Import Permit (TIP). This is after their collecting their Rifle from the baggage pick-up point.
Arriving in South Africa
- All declared or identified firearms may be collected from the Firearms Office after undertaking all the immigration formalities.
- Rifles not declared at departure, or not identified by an appropriate label will be delivered to the normal baggage carousel for collection.
- After collection of checked baggage containing ammunition, you are required to proceed to the SA Police Firearm Office, where all necessary import permits, and other documentation will be finalised before proceeding through customs.
- If you have an onward domestic flight you must clear your Rifle and ammunition at the SA Police Firearm Office before proceeding through customs.
- If you have an onward international flight with our partner airline you may have your Rifle and ammunition checked through to the final destination. Do note however that such Rifle and ammunition may be blocked by airport baggage screening staff for inspection, which will require the airline to page you to proceed to a baggage reconciliation area, where you will be required to open any bags containing ammunition for inspection.
GENERAL CONDITIONS
- If you fail to adhere to all prescribed conditions, we will not carry your Rifle or ammunition, and if you then do not travel your fare and fees paid will be forfeited and will not be refundable.
- The Conditions of Carriage of Rifles form part of our general Terms & Conditions of Carriage, which you are required to read and accept at the time of making a booking.

Information regarding restricted items and dangerous goods
Liquids in Cabin Baggage
In your Cabin Baggage you can carry liquids, aerosols and gels in containers of 100ml or less. They should all fit into one transparent, re-sealable 20cm x 20cm bag.
Once you have gone through security you can buy more liquids in the departure lounge should you need to do so.
Baby food and milk
The 100ml liquid limit does not apply to baby food, milk or sterilised water, provided that the total amount is no more than 1 litre. You may be asked to taste it for security reasons.
Hot drinks
You can bring hot drinks on board if you’ve bought them at the airport and they have a lid on.
Sharp objects in Cabin Baggage
In your Cabin Baggage you can bring scissors with rounded ends and blades less than 6cm long. Razor blades are only allowed if they contained within a plastic cover/container. Knives with a blade not exceeding 6cm and tweezers can be taken on board. Other sharp objects are not allowed in the cabin.
Alcohol
You can bring alcohol bought in the airside departure lounge into the cabin, as long as it’s unopened. Alcohol must be lower than 70% abv, and packed either in an airport shopping bag or in your cabin bag. It’s strictly forbidden to drink any alcohol that has not been purchased on board the aircraft and those found consuming their own alcohol may face prosecution.
Food
You can bring food into the cabin, although we do sell a range of delicious food and drink on board. There’s a 100ml limit for liquid food, like soup or custard. Different countries have different regulations about importing food and drink, so make sure you check the rules for your destination.
Cigarettes and e-cigarettes
You can carry cigarettes in your cabin bag. Make sure you do not exceed the limitations for customs and excise purposes. Lighters can be taken on board, but they must be carried in your pocket. Matches are not allowed on board. You can carry e-cigarettes and a maximum of two spare batteries in your Cabin Baggage but not in the Checked Baggage that is placed into the hold
You can’t smoke any type of cigarette on the plane. It’s a criminal offence to do so.

Dry ice
Dry ice is not permitted on our flights.
Human or pet ashes
You can take ashes with you in your cabin bag, as long as:
- you have a copy of the death certificate
- a copy of the cremation certificate and
- the ashes are securely packaged in an appropriate container.
Please let security staff at the airport know that you’re carrying ashes when passing through the security area.
Camera recording equipment
Camera recording equipment may be taken on-board that is outside the size restrictions of normal baggage (maximum dimensions 63x27x28cms – length x width x height).
Cameras must be stored in the overhead lockers length wise so that they take up the least amount of space possible and they are not required to travel inside a bag of any kind. They cannot be carried under the seat in front of you and you must be able to easily disconnect and remove the lithium battery.
Print and toner cartridges
Toner and/or print cartridges weighing less than 500g can be placed in your hold luggage. There are no restrictions on the number of cartridges that you can carry, but the combined weight of all cartridges must not exceed the 500g. Any cartridges heavier than 500g will not be permitted for carriage.
Camping equipment or stoves
Camping stoves and fuel containers that contain a flammable liquid can only travel in the aircraft hold provided the container has been drained of all liquid before the flight. If you are carrying a used camping stove or fuel tank the empty fuel tank or container must be allowed to drain for at least 1 hour. The fuel tank or container must then be left uncapped for a minimum of 6 hours to allow any residual fuel to evaporate. The fuel tank or container must have the cap securely fastened and be wrapped in absorbent material, such as paper towels, and be placed in a polyethylene or equivalent bag. The top of the bag must then be sealed or gathered and closed with an elastic band or string.
Camping stoves and fuel containers cannot be taken on board the aircraft.
