About Harare

Information

Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital, is a well-developed, cosmopolitan city with modern buildings and facilities as well as beautiful suburbs and parks. It is the seat of government and home to the diplomatic corps. It is also a hub for travel within the country and within the central and southern African region.

Harare has a subtropical highland climate. The average annual temperature is 18°C (64.4 °F).

There are three distinctive seasons. Warm, wet summers occur from November to April, with a cooler dry winter between May to August and a warm to hot, dry season in September and October.

Harare’s warm weather means there is never a wrong time to enjoy sports. From fishing to boating, skiing or tubing, Darwendale Dam and Lake Chivero have something for everyone. Practice your driving and putting skills at the Royal Harare or Borrowdale Brook golf courses or consider go-carting.

Known for its incredible wildlife, a short drive outside Harare is Mukuvisi Woodlands. And since you are already out of town, we also suggest a visit to Domboshawa village. A short hike up the outcrop and enjoy a 360-degree view of Mashonaland while sipping on your choice of a sundowner.

If you love art and crafts, the city hosts some amazing sculptures, art galleries, and craft markets where you will find trinkets, hand-made pottery, and exquisite hand-crafted souvenirs. If you love museums and learning about the history and culture of places, you need to visit the Zimbabwe Museum of Human Sciences and the National Heroes’ Acre. You will not be disappointed.

Sam Levy’s Village and Avondale flea market are just two places where you can find an array of shopping and leisure opportunities. Harare has fantastic restaurants ready to wine and dine with you. From rustic restaurants to up-market venues, the choice is endless.

Flights from Harare to Bulawayo, Victoria Falls & Johannesburg operate on a regular daily basis, making Harare a perfect hub from which to explore the rest of the country.
